Cold-Killer: Ginger Tea

Ginger is the flowering plant of the Zingiberaceae family. Its root is used to spice up many different types of cuisine — but it’s also an ancient herbal remedy said to help with ailments from motion sickness, to heartburn — to even lowering cholesterol.

Singers love ginger root for its anti-inflammatory properties, so much so that many of us are known to travel to gigs with a mini pouch of ginger root stashed away.

When you feel that dread-inducing, itchy-throat feeling of a cold coming on: make a quick batch of ginger tea!

Here’s the recipe:

Scrub and peel a 1-2 inch piece of raw ginger root.

Slice into 4-10 thin sections.

Fill a medium pot or sauce pan with 2 cups water. Gently boil the ginger slices in the water for 15-20 minutes.

Add the juice of one lemon (or lime!) and honey to taste.

Drink hot! Your throat and your sinuses will thank you!
