Biography

David received a Bachelor of Arts in trumpet performance from Bemidji State University in Bemidji, Minnesota, in 2010 and a Master of Arts in trumpet performance at the University of Iowa, in Iowa City, Iowa in 2012 as a performance fellow.

David has performed with the Sioux Falls Municipal Band, Sioux Empire Brass Choir, Bemidji Symphony Orchestra, the St. Louis Park Community Band, and he has served as principal trumpet of the University of Iowa Symphony Band and the University of Iowa Center for New Music. David has taught privately at the Luverne Street Music School in Luverne, Minnesota, and at the Solomon G Brown day camp in Washington DC.

In addition to study, performance, and teaching he enjoys reading, staying active outdoors and spending time with family and friends. His teaching is focused on developing fundamental success and learning at a sustainable pace.

Teaching Style:
Time is dedicated to learning the fundamentals of music (scales, sight reading, ear training). As the student develops these basic skills the lessons can be tailored to what the student is interested or would like to learn and can help prepare them for upcoming auditions or concerts.

Students I work best with:
Students who have a passion for music and devote time to practice outside of lessons. I have high standards for my students. I expect them to practice and devote time to their instruments. If this is not you I may not be a good fit as your lesson teacher. I have a combination of education and experience that has given me a thorough understanding for all things trumpet. I care about each student as a person and a musician and am dedicated to creating a positive teaching environment for growth.

My hobbies:
tennis, golf, hiking, reading, being outside.
