Biography

Mandy B. is an active private music instructor at the Washington DC Metro Area. She possesses over fifteen years of teaching experience and uses her musical knowledge and performance background to create unique individual learning environments for each of her students. Mandy offers private instruction for voice, piano, and harp and is happy to work in a variety of musical styles including classical, musical theater, pop, rock, jazz, gospel. She welcomes students of all ages and abilities. Several of her students have been accepted to prestigious music & drama schools and have performed at venues such as Strathmore Music Center, the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, and the Kennedy Center.
In addition to teaching, Ms. B. has an active singing career. Her performances have brought her praise for her rich warm voice and refreshing honesty in her dramatic interpretations. Ms. B. enjoys a career that encompasses the Mid-West, the Mid-Atlantic, and France. She is equally at home on the operatic or concert stage, as well as an avid recitalist and performer of new works. Recent companies she has worked with include Washington National Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Inscape Chamber Orchestra, Gourmet Symphony, New Dominion Chorale, National Men’s Chorus, Friendship Heights Symphonette, the Maryland Opera Studio, and Opera Kansas.
Previous operatic highlights include Charlene/Service Provider (world premiere) and Barbarina/Le Nozze di Figaro with Washington National Opera, Nannetta/Falstaff with Chautauqua Opera, Lady With A Hand Mirror/ Postcard From Morocco, Love Simpson/Cold Sassy Tree, the title role in Amelia al Ballo, Camilla Pocket/ Miss Havisham’s Fire, Rose Maurrant/ Street Scene, Despina/ CosiFan Tutte, Beth March/ Little Women, Soeur Constance/ Les Dialogues des Carmélites, Madame Silberklang/ The Impresario, and La Princesse/L’Enfant et les Sortilèges.
She was a finalist in 2019 for the 31st Annapolis Opera Vocal Competition and was the recipient of the Patricia A. Edwards Encouragement Award. In 2017, 2015, 2014, and 2013, Mandy has been a Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan National Council Auditions. She was also a Demi-Finalist at the 25mme International Concours de Chant at the Centre Lyrique in Clermont-Ferrand, France in 2017. Other awards include the 2015 Carolyn Bailey & Dominick Argento Vocal Competition – 2nd place, the 2014 Young Artist Performance – 2nd place for NATSAA Mid Atlantic Regionals, the 2013 Chautauqua Opera Apprentice Artist Encouragement Award, and was a Koch Cultural Trust grant recipient 2008 and 2009.
Ms. B. earned her BM in Vocal Performance from Wichita State University and her MM in Opera Performance from the University of Maryland.
